Colm Broderick, a past Head Boy of Presentation College, Carlow, will be taking part in a celebration of the life and work of the late Liam O’Flynn in the National Concert Hall on 15th March. Na Píobairí Uilleann recently gave Colm the honour of taking possession of a set of uilleann pipes made by Leo Rowsome which belonged to the late Liam O’Flynn. The pipes also passed through the hands of Seán Reid and Willie Clancy. Colm is tasked with playing and looking after this wonderful and historic instrument and carrying on its legacy. In 2021 Colm was awarded the Gold Medal on the uilleann pipes at the Seán Ó Riada Bonn Óir competition. Colm will be one of many musicians on the night honouring the late piper. Renowned musicians such as Matt Molloy, Paddy Glackin, Noel Hill and Mary Bergin will also be performing.

Liam Lawton’s song ‘One Step Beyond’ was recently recorded by First, Fifth and Sixth Year students in honour of Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters. Our very talented Head Boy, Aaron Smith, recorded the song and created the video, in addition to singing the song with his classmates. Music Department students decided to record the song as we couldn’t have our usual Presentation Day celebration this year. The recording is dedicated to three Presentation Sisters from our local schools who passed away in 2021 Sr. Patricia O’Byrne, Sr. Kathleen Hendron and Sr. Mary Keary, and all the Presentation Sisters around the world.

Féilte Scoille

Congratulations to the Teaching and Learning Team on a wonderful morning of sharing and collaboration. Click on the heading for further details and photos.

On Wednesday the 8th December, we hosted Féilte Scoile in our school. This was organised by the Teaching and Learning team in the school and Coordinated by Janet Bradley (Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator) and Katie Barrett (Junior Cycle Co-ordinator) Féilte is run by the Teaching Council of Ireland every year and attracts many teachers from all over Ireland to showcase their Teaching and Learning methodologies.

In our Féilte Scoile, each subject department showcased their Teaching and Learning Methodologies and some Assessment Methodologies including feedback. Teachers spent a number of minutes at each stand and saw how they could incorporate their strategies into their subjects.

We were joined on the day by our Chairman of the Board of Management Fr. Conn O'Maoldhomhnaigh who visited every stand to see these methodologies.

Overall, it was a very successful day with positive feedback from staff. It is hoped to run this event again in the future.

The Teaching and Learning team would like to thank Mr. Murray, Ms. Gillespie and Mr. Carley along with all teachers for their support on this initiative.

Darkness into Light 2021

Thank you to those who took part in our virtual event last year for Darkness Into Light.  The event is taking place this year on Saturday 8th May at sunrise, approximately 5.40am. Again, we are urging the school community to get involved by walking, swimming, cycling or simply lighting a candle in support and remembrance.

If you would like to donate to the page you can do so by clicking on the link below: https://www.darknessintolight.ie/home-page-2021

Please continue to spread the message and offer hope by wearing a Darkness Into Light t-shirt, or anything yellow, and sharing your sunrise moment using #DILSunriseAppeal #DIL2020.

We also remind you of the link shared last year by our YSVP team ‘You are not alone’. If you haven't seen it already this is a great video that some of our students took part in: DIL Video

This is the link for this years' video: Darkness Into Light Video 2021
