Mar 11 2013

Presentation College Carlow picked up yet more awards at the Eircom Junior Spiders Awards (Irish Internet Awards). The awards which recognise and reward primary and postprimary students for the innovative ways they use the internet through designing their own websites.  Hosted by RTE’s Aidan Power, the 2013 winners were announced at a ceremony in the RDS in Dublin on March 5th among a host of people from the Irish tech world such as Paul Phelan of Intel Ireland and James Whelton also a co-founder of Coder Dojo.

The school had a total of three shortlisted websites; Schoolswise, Aptus Racing and Synergy Racing. However it was Lee Campbell along with teammate Pauric Dempsey and teacher Claire Mc Hugh who received the award for Best Web Design at the awards for their F1 in Schools Team website www.syneryf1racing.com and on hand to present the award was Bill Liao Entrepreneur and  Co-Founder of  the now international movement Coder Dojo. The lads fought off tough competition from over 42 shortlisted websites from schools around the country.

The Judges said they chose this website because:

“SynergyRacing is a well designed and engaging website. It is easy to navigate and hasa variety of content that was created using a mix of media. The site appeals toa wide audience. Great work.”

Commenting on the win Lee told us that “It was great for the school to get a second consecutive win in this prestigious national competition and to build on last year’s success….”
