U14 Girls Gaelic Success!

Feb 22 2012

Friday 10th February saw an unfavourable day for a football match, on a pitch that had only just been re-sodded. The Pres. girls u.14 football team hosted a game to Presentation De La Salle Bagenalstown as their first game of their group. Bagenalstown proved convincing winners on the day on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-3. Unfortunatly the Pres. were missing two key players, Jade Collins in goal and Katie Mooney at fullback, but their replacements Lauran Byrne and Tara Kilduff always did their best, with Lauren pulling off a number of convincing saves which indicated a possibility of a future goalie in the making. The Pres. were stopped in their tracks a number of times for over carrying and fouls, all which needed to be worked on for the next game. Every chance that came their way was taken well, with powerful goals from Liz Brophy and Melissa O’ Callaghan. Liz Brophy and Emma Kilduff also scored some beautiful points to add to their tally. However, it wasn’t to be their day. Pres. Bagenalstown were too strong in mid-field and moved better off the ball, a lesson learned for the Pres. Carlow girls. With a very young and small side, crippled with injury and absenses, Pres. Carlow did well in the circumstances, never dropping their heads and always battling on.

Congratulations to the girls U.14 football team who beat St. Leo’s on Tuesday 21st February, on a massive score line of 4-12 to 2-3. The Pres. Girls played with great heart and determination, kicking pints from all angles of the pitch. The team welcomed back two key players from injury on the day, Jade Collins and Katie Mooney, who both proved very influential in this great win. Leo’s opened up the scoreboard after 4 minutes, before which the Pres. had missed a few good chances. But it wasn’t long until the Pres. found their form, with points from Liz Brophy, Emma Kilduff and Chloe Nolan. The Pres. proved finished the first half with a dangerous lead of four points after a goal from Aideen Stronge. The Pres. were caught asleep at the beginning of the second half as Leo’s clocked up 3 points with the wind in their backs. The Pres. soon re-emerged as convincing winners, with scores that would earn a place on any boys team, from Aideen Strong, Liz Brophy, Emma Kilduff, Nikita Butler, Chloe Nolan and Kerry Dooley. . It was great to see how the girls all improved their special awareness and running off the ball to ensure more effective marking and showing for the ball. On the day, Liz Brophy scored 7 points and found her niche in her new position at centre forward. Best for the Pres on the day were Liz Brophy, Aideen Strong, Chloe Nolan, Kerry Dooley, Emma Kilduff and Katie Mooney.
