Congratulations to two groups from Second Year and Transition Year who raised almost €900 for two worthy causes by holding a No-Uniform Day on Monday 25th February. Students were asked to wear jeans to support ‘Rare Disease Day’ and the slogan ‘Jeans for Genes’ was publicised throughout the school and helped raise awareness of the issue. The other cause to benefit from the day was ‘Carlow Relay for Life’.

Congratulations to our Second Year girls, Aoife O' Sullivan,Kate Mulhall and Katie Cullen, who won the 'Dublin University Women Graduates'Association' public speaking competition, held in Trinity College recently. The girls delivered an exceptional and impromptu speech on the topics of Citzenship, the Olympics and Modern Technology. Accompanied by their parents and teacher Ms. Christine O' Sullivan, the victorious ladies will now go on to represent Trinity College in the national final, due to be held in the college on Saturday 2^nd March. The confident and able ladies will compete against teams representing universities from Queens Belfast,U.C.D, Limerick and U.C.G. for the 'Poppy Corbett' perpetual trophy.

Seven students from Presentation College Carlow received their Pope John Paul 11 awards in the Seven Oaks Hotel on Friday 25^th January. The awards were presented by Monsignor Brendan Byrne in recognition of the students’ active involvement in parish and community. The students are Grace Byrne (Papal Cross), Chloe Doyle (Gold), Daragh Byrne (Gold), Victoria Kidd (Gold), Siobhan Dowling (Gold), Weronika Oniszk (Bronze), and Ellen Murphy (Bronze).

Congratulations to Lisa Doyle from Fifth Year who has won an all-expenses paid, three week scholarship to the Gaeltacht. Lisa took part in the All-Ireland competition which included an oral Irish exam.

Well done to 1A1 and 1A4 history classes on the presentation of their models of Ancient Ireland. A sample are posted HERE. 

Tuesday 5th February is Safer Internet day. Take time this week to visit webwise and find tips on the safe use of the Internet. Tips are available for parents, students and teachers.

Well done to Eimear Heffernan, a Sixth Year student, who has won a free four day trip to Strasbourg on The Graduate online civic awareness competition. Eimear, accompanied by twenty four other students from around Ireland, will spend the full day at the European Parliament where she will take part in Euroscola which is a youth parliament and will involve them taking part in discussions on a number of preselected topics about the EU with students from other member states. Sponsored by the Southern & Eastern Regional Assembly, Eimear will also be taken to other places of educational interest while on the tour.

Over one hundred and fifty Music students from Presentation College visited the Omniplex Cinema in Carlow for a special showing of ‘Les Miserables’ on Wednesday 23^rd January. Organised by Music teacher, Ms. Lyons, and accompanied by other teachers, the students enjoyed the two and a half hour musical spectacular. Meanwhile, senior English students experienced an alternative version of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ when ‘Boil In The Bag Productions’ performed in the school library and some Third Year students enjoyed a performance of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in Dublin’s Helix Theatre on Friday 18^th January. All in all, a busy week of cultural activity in Presentation College!
