Success in the AILO Problem Solving Competition

Of the nine students who took part in the preliminary round of the All-Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) on Wednesday 2nd February, we are delighted to announce that two of our students qualified in the top 100 in the whole of Ireland. Two Fifth Year students, Jake Baker and Oliwier Jakubiec have been invited to participate in the All-Ireland National Final on Wednesday March 9th in DCU. A fantastic achievement! ....

Congratulations to all students who sat the AILO problem solving exam in school this week. The results are not yet out. It is a very competitive competition involving students from all over Ireland. The top 100 will be invited to participate in the Final. The top four will represent Ireland in the International Olympiad. We are delighted to say that in our first competitive tournament we placed first. With 91 players competing in the tournament (thirteen of whom were Presentation College students) we had six players in the top ten and nine players in the top twenty. Thanks also to all the staff who are supporting Chess Club and we are delighted to continue to see new students and staff members joining. Chess Club runs on Thursdays at 1.20pm in G2.

Energia's Seachtain na Gaeilge All Ireland Competition

We are delighted to announce two students from Presentation College, Carlow have won some prizes in Energia's Seachtain na Gaeilge All Ireland competitions. Seán (Second Year) from Ms. Ryan's class wrote a poem titled 'An tEarrach' which describes the beautiful flowers, animals playing and the excitement of Easter coming. Seán received Second Prize in the division First to Third Year. Eva (Fifth Year) from Ms. Breen's class wrote a poem titled 'Go Deireadh a tSaoil' in memory of Nadine. AILO Problem Solving Competition

On Monday 25th January eight students tackled the first round of the All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad. Congratulations to Asia Aloi, Jake Baker, Oliwier Jakubiec, Damian Korus, Gellert Moravcsik, Hannah Regan, Chloe Ryan and Eoin Walsh who all took part in the competition. The top four top students in the individual category of the All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) are selected to represent Ireland at the International Linguistics Olympiad. IOL 2021 will take place in Ventspils, Latvia in July 2021. To see some IOL Puzzles click here

Soccer Champions

Congratulations to Presentation College Carlow's minor girls’ soccer team who were crowned Region 3 Minor Schools Soccer League champions last year. The team overcome teams such as Borris Vocational school, Scoil Chríost Rís and local rivals St. Leo's college. The girls had a fantastic season and their teachers Ms. Ryan and Ms. Kinsella are very proud of their achievements this year. Members of the squad include: Ciara and Aoife Kelly (joint Captains), Sinéad and Gráinne Thompson, Lucy Gibson, Karen Bradley, Clodagh Hendy, Clíodhna Hayden, Maya Brennan, Marie Cranny, Beckie-Lou White, Róisín Kennedy, Orla Woods, Sarah Nolan, Matilda and Isabella Kendellen, Believe Ogbomo, Danielle O'Driscoll, Jasmine McGuire McCormack, Nina Uwagbi. Congratulations to Asia who was awarded a trophy from the Irish Science Teachers Association for her project in the SciFest  in colleges competition. 

German Olympiad

Congratulations to Eva Kavanagh who reached the Final of the Bi-annual German Olympiad. Eva was the only student from Carlow in the Final. This year the Final  was on-line with the fifteen students from all over Ireland and the judges. Eva took part this week in an online discussion and interview through German. We are still awaiting the results and wish her all the best. The competition is organised by the Goethe-Institut in Dublin.

Solar Powered Water Coolers

An enterprising group of Transition Years have just entered a competition organised by Friends of the Earth in a bid to win Solar Panels for our school. The team is comprised of Shauna Murphy Woods, Tegan Sherry, Emily Jane Kendellon and Cyprian Godyn. We are hoping to be shortlisted and if so will need everyone’s votes to ensure that “Solar Powered Water Coolers” become a reality for everyone using the College.
