On Thursday (3 December) our 32 Student Council Representatives took part in their official training, facilitated by Irish Second Level Students Union (ISSU) Rob O Connell. All of these members are now fully fledged, elected and trained Student Council Representatives. Due to current restrictions, training took place via online Webcam. Students learned about the foundation of the ISSU, the various roles and responsibilities involved with being a class representative of our Student Council. Students attention was drawn to the three most important aspects of running a successful Student Council which are Constitution, Code of Conduct and Communication, all of which we have embraced over the past few years here in Presentation College, Carlow.
On the same day, we also held elections for 2020-2021 roles within SC. Sean O Driscoll and Emily-Jane Kendellen have both been re-elected as Chairperson and Secretary respectively. Senior Vice-Chairperson is Fifth Year student Adam Byrne and Junior Vice-Chairperson is First Year student Praise (Emmanuel) Abu. There was also a huge interest in taking up the role of PRO, so we have a great team in place to keep up with SC news this year. We would like to thank all students for getting involved in our Student Council this year and wish them well for the year ahead. Following a recent Regional Council event, attended by three of our students, Doireann Broderick of Fifth Year was elected as Carlow-Kilkenny Regional Representative.
SC have many plans for the coming year, including Health and Safety training, a reintroduction of the breakfast club and helping out with a possible reopening of some of our lunchtime clubs. They are looking forward to the year ahead and to working with teachers, Mr. Murray and the BOM with great enthusiasm.
