Presentation College is delighted to announce the introduction of girls soccer this year with the Minor Girls soccer team playing their first match before Christmas against Cross and Passion College in Kilcullen. The team travelled to Kilcullen and they were unfortunate to be defeated 5-0 in this match but showed great potential. The line of defence, Erin McElligott, Clare Miller, Lucy Gibson and Sinéad Thompson worked hard to try keep the Cross and Passion forwards at bay. Ciara Kelly and Ella Brennan pulled off some great saves in the goal. Players who stood out on the day were captain of the team Sinéad Thompson, Clare Miller and Sarah Nolan.
The Minor Girls soccer team recently overcame Athy College 4-1. The girls started the game very strongly and had a few shots fired on target by Katie Ingram and Orla Woods but Athy's defence were hard to break down. Orla eventually put the team up 1-0 within the first 10 minutes. Athy broke free and equalised to make it 1-1. The Presentation girls did not allow this to put a stop to them and Niamh Murphy slotted the ball into the back of the net. Shortly after Lucy Gibson found the net and made it 3-1 at half time. The second half saw some great saves from Ciara Kelly in the goal. Orla Woods sent another ball into the back of the net to make it 4-1. The girls displayed some fantastic skill and teamwork and they were unlucky not to get more goals. Players who stood out on the day were Niamh Murphy and Orla Woods. The girls move onto their next round next Wednesday against St. Joseph's Rochfortbridge. Well done girls on a fantastic win!
