Transition Year classes enjoyed a recent trip to the George Bernard Shaw Theatre to attend the production “ A Face in the Crowd “, presented by the Discovery / Recover Theatre Project.
The production tells the stories of recovery journeys that people encountered so as to enable us to be more aware that mental health difficulties could affect anyone at any stage in their lives.
The piece of theatre was created from real life stories of local individuals. Through telling their stories, they helped to share the real human experience of mental health recovery.
The production hoped to encourage more acceptance and understanding in the community towards mental health difficulties and it is hoped that this will support people to realise that it is nothing to be ashamed or afraid of.
There are four main messages from “A Face in the Crowd“
• Be aware of your mental health.
• Seek help.
• Recovery and hope
• There is always a better day.
Students also engaged in a follow up workshop from the writer of the play, Niall O’ Muirí, alongside Mairéad, an Occupational Therapist from the H.S.E. The workshop proved to be invaluable for students as it was a chance for them to reflect on their own recovery journey. 
It also gave advice and help to students on how to mind their own mental health and suggested very useful wellness tools. Both the production and the workshop received great feedback from students who felt it was very beneficial and extremely worthwhile.
