Presentation College played in their first ever Leinster Schools Senior Rugby Development Shield Final on Monday, 23rd January against Boyne Community School, Trim in Donnybrook and were defeated on a score line of 30-12.
After a nervous start, Presentation College found themselves 15-0 behind after twenty minutes with Boyne CS scoring two well-worked tries, converting one and adding a penalty. The Pres boys found it tough going in the first half with the Trim school well drilled at tackling the Carlow rucks but this did not deter them from playing the expansive game they have adopted throughout the year even running the ball from behind their own posts and almost going coast to coast with Josh Moore and Kelan Gaffney linking well in the backs before Conor Dorgan was tackled into touch deep inside the Boyne twenty-two. Their hard work was rewarded with tries from Alexander Holland Walsh and Tommy Dunne as they battled back to 15-12 with Gaffney converting one of the tries. Forwards Jack Nolan Swayne, Padraig O'Connor, Eamon MacMahon and Seán Aston carried hard all game with scrum half Thokozani Siziba linking well. Wingers Darragh Heneghan and Scott Cooper were always busy and had the speed to threaten if the ball was moved wide quickly but the Boyne rush defence cut this down quickly. 
Boyne smothered the fightback and broke Carlow hearts scoring a converted try with ten minutes to go to take an eight point lead. They closed out the game strongly, adding another try and a penalty to leave the score 30-12.
A brave performance on the day came up short but the Pres lads can be proud of a very successful year on the rugby field and with a strong Junior Team the further is bright!
