Presentation College was represented by IT Coordinator, Ms Claire McHugh, at the first inaugural ‘pluggED in’ conference which was held in Thomond Park Stadium recently. The event was hosted by Microsoft in association with their education partners Wriggle and Prodigy Learning.
The event explored the role of modern technology in today’s education curriculum. Technology demonstrations were given to teachers and principals who attended the conference from all across Ireland. Ms McHugh was one of the presenters at the event and presented to the assembled representatives of the attending 150 schools, including principals and IT staff, on “Our Digital Journey with Microsoft”. Presentation College has an outstanding record in the area of integrating technology with education and was recently awarded Digital School of the Year, for the second year running, at the Digital Media Awards. To add to the honours list, the school has also been designated a Microsoft Centre of Excellence and Ms McHugh was delighted to accept the reward on behalf of the school.
Teachers attended curriculum based workshops, led by teachers in Maths, Science, Engineering, Woodwork an, Modern Foreign Languages. Teachers attended interactive sessions exploring the role that both Minecraft and Scratch can be used to promote coding in the classroom. Attendees also had the opportunity to speak with schools who have implemented a digital strategy in the classroom.
