Over the past two months, 29 of Ms Byrne's German students have been exchanging letters with students from two other schools - one in Germany and the other in Austria. It has been a busy and exciting project and pictured are just some of the students with the letters and post cards they received over the course of the project.
Our students exchanged two letters with their Brieffreund / Brieffreundin (penpal) from each of the schools and recieved three letters in return. Our students wrote in English. The first letter was about school, subjects and included the student's timetable. What they recieved back were two letters in German from each of the schools in our project. They were amazed at the differences in the school day in each of the countries. It is MUCH longer here in Presentation College.
The second letter was on the topic of holidays, hobbies, GAA, St. Patrick's Day etc. Once again we wrote in English. This meant the English students in the German and Austrian school could learn a bit about our culture through English. The students in Ms Byrne's classes received similar letters written in German. These also dealt with the holidays and hobbies as well as explauining how Easter is celebrated by the Germans and Austrians.
