Ten representatives from Presentation College attended our local Comhairle na n’Óg Annual Youth Conference on November 11th in the Seven Oaks Hotel. Students took part in various ice-breakers, helping them to settle in and get to know other like-minded students from various schools in Carlow. They heard about the various initiatives being undertaken by Comhairle and Carlow Regional Youth Services such as drug misuse, intimate image sharing, period awareness. Students also took part in various workshops, one of which was based on issues affecting young people in Carlow.
Comhairle na n’Óg has been giving young people a voice on the development of local policies and services since 2002. In Presentation College we have many students who are involved in local and national decision-making through this organisation. Young people between 12-18 are encouraged to become members of Comhairle na n’Óg, an active organisation that is evidence of Ireland’s commitment to the implementation of Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which outlines the right of children to have a say in issues that concern them.
