Fifth Yearstudents viewed ‘12 Years a Slave’ in the cinema yesterday as part of their religion programme.
“The film gives a harrowing account of slavery in the 1840s in America. The film tells the story of Solomon Norton, a free man, who was kidnapped and sold into slavery.”
-Ms. Doorley
Here aresome of the reviews from the Fifth Year students:
“It’s the unhappiest happy ending I’ve ever seen, a moment that makes you weep, not just for this one man who found his way back to freedom, but for all of those men and women who never knew it in the first place.”
-David Aston
“This is impressive film making, but not easy to take in.”
-Melanie Mynhardt
“This showed us one of the ugly pages of American history, and does so realistically with high degree drama. The acting as well as the writing in this movie is Oscar worthy!”
-Caoimhe Byrne
