March in the Guidance Department

March flew by in the guidance department.
Students were getting their mock results back and were finishing up their applications for #CAO, #DARE, #HEAR, portfolio submissions, auditions, and scholarships. Huge well done to our Sixth Years.
Engineering Week saw a tour of senior students to #MSDCarlow. Massive thank you to James for the opportunity and to Clodagh Broderick, for her winning submission to get us in the door.
We also took senior students to @SETU Carlow, for a Careers in Engineering panel discussion and then a tour of the facilities and a chance to meet some lecturers and students there.
Sixth Years who are interested in @CIFET, were brought on an excellent tour and we met some past pupils.
Third Years who are going into Fifth Year, began their peer integration work to help them get to know each other with some team building exercises.
Ms. Rothwell went to the Trinity College Guidance Counsellors' day and brought back some information and the all-important merch. Thanks to @UL, for sending a box including the lovely hats following up from their presentation to us last month.
Finally, Transition Year students, Judyta and Edita entered the apprenticeship competition with a brilliant piece of work based on sustainability. Best of luck to them. Go n-éirí leo, Bonne chance and viel glück in the oral exams next week.

La Semaine Française

The French flag flew high once again recently, as students in ‘Presentation College’ were immersed in French culture and language, as our annual “Semaine Française” began. Walking through the main corridor, one’s curiosity was aroused with posters, flags and suitable décor, representing our interest in the French way of life. Face-painters at the ready, signs translated into the French language, and a general spirit of camaraderie throughout the school: La Semaine Française a commençé!

Throughout the week, all French students enjoyed a variety of activities, from a games morning to treasure hunting, to trying to beat the clock by placing French cities on the map as quickly as possible!

One of this year’s highlights was the new addition of a fashion show. Third Year students felt like they were on the catwalks of Paris as they showed off their very inventive creations! While Fifth year students took part in French speed-dating, which they found very helpful in improving their confidence in speaking en français.

Ahead of their trip to Tanzania, the 16 students who will be travelling there in October, held a Crêpe Morning, where they each made and sold their delicious crêpes to our school community. In total they raised over €500 which will be donated to the Teretta foundation in support of its mission to help vulnerable children in Tanzania.

Overall, the week was a tremendous success. French teacher, Ms. Bowden said the week was undoubtedly educational as well as enjoyable. From sports to treasure hunting, “la Semaine Française” allowed each student to become more accustomed to the French culture and way of life. Vive le français!

Well done to our Senior ladies football team who have qualified for the Leinster Final. The girls had a tough battle against Colaiste Iosagain. The girls showed great resilience and determination throughout the match. Special mention to our goalkeeper Joanne, who pulled off some fantastic saves which made all the difference in the end. We are so proud of all the girls and look forward to the final after Easter. Final Score - Presentation College 4:5 - Colaiste Iosagain 0:10.
