November in the Guidance Department

Nov 30 2025

November has been a busy month in Guidance @prescarlow. We had @SETUCarlow speaking to our Sixth Years and #SETU's open day in Waterford with Fifth Years in one week. We also celebrated #Standupweek25, in which we launched our new PRISM (Pride, Raising Awareness, Involvement, Support and Mentoring). Well done to our committee and to those who wore crazy socks and eye makeup on the Friday.

#College Awareness week - Monday saw a return from Julia from #MABS to speak to our Sixth Years about the cost of going to college and Nadine from @CarlowCollege met our Transition Years.

Our Sixth Years enjoyed their time at the @tyndallcollege career fair on Tuesday.

#SETU's Niamh, returned to us to speak with our Second Years on Wednesday about what it's like moving into 3rd level.

Our exams began that Friday, so we finished the week with classroom activities and a competition to check for #College Awareness. Congratulations to Ance, Sibusiso and Lorcan who won the hampers of college merch.

There were also reflections on college written by our teachers and anyone in the front foyer who took the time to look, enjoyed trying to figure out "Who said What".

Thank you and well done to staff and students for their participation.

Many Sixth Years have already applied to the CAO, and their Guidance Counsellors are helping them with scholarship applications, HPAT prep, DARE forms, etc. along with the usual work in the classroom to be ready for the #CAO deadlines.

Some students attended Open days throughout November. @UCC, @DCU, @Maynooth University, @MTU and @UCD to name most of them. Some will attend @Trinity College tomorrow. Huge well done to students for taking the time to do this and to their parents and guardians for encouraging them.
