A combination of hurlers from Presentation College and Gaelcholáiste Carlow began the Junior Championship with a thrilling victory over Ramsgrange Community School on Wednesday morning. Ramsgrange have proven to be a bogey-team in recent years, so the Pres came into this fixture hoping to overturn the form books.

Played in blustery conditions the Pres played with the elements in the first half and thanks to some excellent long-range scores from Danny McMahon opened a seven-point lead at the interval with the scoreboard reading 4.7 to 2.6. The goals coming from the sticks of Brian Louw (3) and Sam Wickham.

The South-Wexford lads came storming back after the break and had the deficit reduced to one with fifteen minutes to go. Wind assisted it appeared that they would run out comfortable winners, but the Barrow-siders refused to yield and netted two more goals through Wickam and Alex McGrath to run out deserving five-point winners at the finish.
