When it comes to technology, it seems no-one can rival Presentation College, Carlow which, last Friday night, was named Best Digital School of the Year at the National Digital Media awards.
The gala event in the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Dublin saw five schools from around the country shortlisted for the prestigious technology award, with the techie teens from Presentation College emerging tops!
“We’re absolutely delighted … we’re thrilled, we just couldn’t believe it, but obviously, all the hard work over the last few years paid off,” enthused student Lee Campbell.
“It was really tense on the night because they presented seven awards and ours was next, but then they gave out the starters for dinner so we had to wait … it was so tense,” laughs Lee. There was added success for Lee on the night when he won an award for the best dressed/best bow tie. Lee’s inventive bow tie, which was made from computer cables and a QRK code, caught the eye of the judges and proved that his fashion sense is almost as cutting-edge as his technology know-how!
Presentation College’s phenomenal achievements in the F1 in Schools, their awards at the Eircom Junior Spider Awards, their virtual learning partnership with Microsoft as well as the success of students like Lee speaking at the recent Digital Biscuit, all made Presentation College the obvious choice as overall winner.
Students Lee Campbell, Pauric Dempsey and John Harding were joined at the awards by Principal Ray Murray and teachers Claire McHugh and Meave Lyons.
